Our sustainable packaging
We’re sustainable
Every BKSP order arrives to you in 100% eco-friendly packaging so your unboxing experience isn’t tarnished by excessive amounts of non-recyclable plastic!

Our compostable
garment poly bags

We pack your BKSP orders in these awesome Aussie-certified home-compostable INNERHERO bags! Forget those traditional plastic (ew!) poly bags, the INNERHERO bags are made from PBAT and PLA, and are 100% biodegradable!

They’re certified home-compostable and industrially compostable so you can pop them straight in your home compost or your green bin for council collection!

Our compostable
postage bags

We post your BKSP orders to you in dirt bags by noissue, and we absolutely LOVE them!

Dirtbags are the real deal! They’re made from a combination of corn-based biopolymers and composts in 6 months (180 days). Dirt bags are certified for both home and commercial compost, and worms love them as much as we do.

The noissues compostable mailers are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio based polymer which is compostable, and PLA which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. Noissue’s total use of PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource.

If you have an item to return to us please just turn your dirtbag inside out and use it again!

Our tissue paper & paper stickers

We’re proud to use noissues tissue paper and paper stickers for all orders. Not only are they made using sustainable materials (hello soy ink!), they’re also compostable!

The noissues packing materials are crafted using acid-free paper made from cellulose fiber where the active acid pulp is eliminated during processing. It is also lignin- and sulfur-free, meaning that the ink won’t transfer from the tissue and the paper won’t leave behind any of these chemicals when decomposing. Noissues tissue paper is printed using soy inks, an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based inks that’s made from soybeans, a renewable resource. Soy inks also have low levels of VOCs, reducing air pollution during the drying process.

Noissues paper goods are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified! This means the FSC certifies that the paper products that make up the noissues printed tissue paper are sourced from a forest and supply chain that is managed responsibly and sustainably. FSC forest management standards are developed at an international level, and are then adapted to individual countries’ legal, social, and geographical settings, through national standards.

Our packaging is….

What it means:

Compostable packaging is typically made from a number of renewable plant-based materials and/or bio-polymers. To be certified home compostable, a product must break down in home compost within 180 days and 90 days in commercial composting conditions.

Why it is awesome:

Cardboard and paper products are a great addition to the backyard compost as it helps with the carbon-nitrogen ratio. Easily broken down in a compost, these products also tend to have chemical compounds removed from the product.

Ensuring success:

Sometimes people don’t notice that something is compostable, meaning it can sometimes end up in the landfill. If you don’t have a home compost, you can look at local options for communal compost sites, or somewhere you can drop off items for commercial composting.

What it means:

Recycled packaging is made from previously used plastic products, including single use bags, bottles and other common plastic items. The plastic is processed at a recycling facility and put back into circulation, thus doubling its lifespan.

Why it is awesome:

Recycling reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators – it conserves natural resources and prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials. Basically instead of making something new – we’re taking something already in circulation to give it a second life!

Ensuring success:

While operating and maintaining recycling plants can often be a bit more costly, you can support by choosing products made from recycled materials. When you’re done with these products, make sure you recycle them in their appropriate categories e.g. plastics, aluminum, glass, paper etc. so it goes to the right plant and doesn’t end up in the landfill.

What it means:

Reusable packaging is packaging that has a built-in second (and possibly third, fourth, etc.) use. While most packaging is typically single use, and recycled after it accomplishes its primary goal, reusable packaging can be used multiple times for a variety of functions.

Why it is awesome:

When an item of packaging is used for a second time after its initial use, that doubles the utility of the packaging, and prevents another single-use piece of packaging from being used.

Ensuring success:

In order for reusable packaging to have its desired impact, it has to be used more than once. Simply put, if a reusable bag is immediately discarded, it loses any potential positive benefits it might have had. To combat this, companies should focus on educating their customers on their packaging and how to make the most out of it.

Third party products

When we source products from other companies we need to ensure they’re ethically made, sustainable and align to our core BKSP values. Everything down to the packaging used to get their product from A to B is important to us.

We strive to support businesses that share the same values as us, and ensure transparency and consistency across our messaging and the businesses we support along the way. Every little bit of environmental awareness helps!
