Journey to sustainability
BKSP – Australian owned and ethically made

Changing the world and looking great doing it is what we’re all about, here at BKSP! We’re so proud to be able to share slow, sustainable and ethical activewear with you!

We’re thrilled to be an Ethical Clothing Australia accredited business, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the local Australian textile, clothing and footwear (TCF) industry, and showcasing that our supply chain is transparent and ethical from design to dispatch.

Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) is an accreditation body that works collaboratively with local textile, clothing and footwear (TCF) businesses to protect and uphold the rights of Australian garment workers.

To be ECA accredited, a business’s manufacturing operations are audited from design to dispatch to ensure that local TCF workers, including outworkers, are being paid appropriately, receiving all their legal entitlements and working in safe conditions.

By supporting an ECA accredited business you are helping to strengthen the Australian TCF industry and you’re valuing the rights of our local garment workers.

BKSP Sustainable journey .. We’re doing our best to tread gently on the earth.

As a small business, we’re driven by our social and ecological responsibility. We want to reflect our integrity in the way we create and deliver our collections. We aim to create quality products with an ethical awareness. Our clothing is made slowly and made to last. We create pieces you love and can use again and again from sustainable fabrics and fibres.

Our core range made in Melbourne from organic cotton

The BKSP Core Range is very special to us. The fabrics used to create this range are actually made right here in Melbourne by a reputable Australian organic fabric Mills – How amazing is that!

From the creation of the fabrics, the pattern making and sewing, the dying and printing, and everything in between – The Core Range is from our local home-town makers and creators.

What is GOTS?

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed by leading standard setters to define world-wide recognised requirements for organic textiles.

From the harvesting of the raw materials, environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing to labelling, textiles certified to GOTS provide a credible assurance to the consumer.

GOTS certification builds upon four distinctive and unique features:

Organic fibres

A textile product carrying the GOTS label must contain a minimum of 70% certified organic fibres, a product with the label grade grade ‘organic’ must contain a minimum of 95% certified organic fibres

Ecological and social criteria

To build a truly sustainable textile industry, GOTS evaluates the processing and manufacturing of textiles on the basis of both, environmental and social criteria. This means assessing everything from the chemical inputs being used to the ethical treatment of workers

All processing stages

All steps in the processing, manufacturing and trading of organic textiles are covered by GOTS. All must be certified to strict ecological and social criteria in order for the product to carry the GOTS label. In this way, the GOTS puts an end to greenwashing.

Third party certification

On-site inspection and certification of processors, manufacturers and traders is performed by independent Third-Party GOTS accredited Certification Bodies and forms the basis of the GOTS monitoring system.

We support our local makers by employing experts in pattern making, cutting, sewing, printing and more.

There are so many benefits to using the talented people in our local area. Less waste as we don’t need to make so many items to fulfill large scale factories quotas, less fuel consumption and carbon monoxide in the atmosphere, greater quality control as items are made in-house or nearby, supporting the regional economy and collaboration with our local maker and being able to make smaller ranges.

We are also exploring a limited edition range/pieces by collaborating with family-owned manufacturers based in France and in Hong Kong.
